Jamie continued his family tradition in 1998 when he set out from Sydney in a 25 foot Top Hat named "Possibilities", and sailed via the Great Australian Bight to Africa. Many adventures later, three great southern capes, the wild and glacial channels of Tierra del Fuego and a couple of extra ocean crossings of the Atlantic under his belt, he returned to Sydney in 2008 completing a ten year global circumnavigation many only dream of. Not long after he returned, Jamie was talking boats with a man who did not know of his journey; the man commented that you would not go out of the harbour in a Top Hat - Jamie agreed that it would not be sensible!
Jamie met his future wife Lisa when she joined "Possibilities" sailing down the coast of Brazil. After returning to Australia, Jamie and Lisa sailed "Possibilities" south to Tasmania to take in a Bass Strait crossing and sail the east and south west coasts of Tasmania.
The next sailing project was to find a boat in the USA and sail it back to Australia. That boat was "The Wild Goose". After spending three months preparing her for sea Jamie and Lisa sailed from Florida, USA via the Panama Canal and South Pacific Ocean to New Zealand. Their son was born in Auckland and sailed with his parents back to Australia in 2011. Now a crew of three, the family sailed the QLD and NSW coasts and Jamie formalised his sailing experience obtaining the Master 5/MED qualification; they decided to return to Tasmania where their second young crew member was born.
"The Wild Goose" is a 45 foot Morgan Ocean Racer, a classic design sloop from 1967; she has made a cruising base for Jamie and his family since 2011; together they have cruised the coastal waters of Tasmania and the east coast of Australia spanning Queensland to Tasmania's west coast, including Lord Howe Island.
The family continue to sail and restore their 50 year old boat in between deliveries; she has undergone major restoration of rig, mast, engine, exterior finish and internal cruising boat features. There are always more projects on the list!
